RGC Senior Finals Kick Off!
Well we’re at the business end of the season now with Semi Finals being played across the Coast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The 1st Grade season finished with a bang last week with PBC convincing over Bond Pirates. The Alleygators though were still unable to steal the Minor Premiership away from the Eagles who secured the top spot with a solid win over Surfers Paradise.
This meant the Gold Coast Eagles not only claimed the 1st Grade Minor Premiership but also the Hot Tomato Cup and the overall Club Championship! This is a fantastic result for a club that just three short years ago was on the brink of extinction! Credit must go to all players, volunteers and committee members at the club and while congratulations is definitely in order, I’m sure the celebrations are on hold as the club features in all of the Major Semi Finals! No doubt they’re all firmly focussed on capturing 4 titles including the 1st Grade Premiership for the 3rd year in a row!
The hunt will begin this Saturday when the Eagles take on PBC at Surfers Rugby Club in the Major Semi Final. The Minor Semi final will be contested between Surfers and Helensvale, at Helensvale on Sunday.
In 2nd Grade, the Eagles will also feature in the Major Semi Final when they take on top of the table Colleges at Albert Park. While these two have battled for top spot all year, Colleges have had the wood over the Eagles having beaten them in all three meetings. In the Minor Semi, Bond Pirates will take on Helensvale Hogs in what should be a battle of the heavyweights!
The 3rd Grade Major Semi may act as a prelude to the 1st Grade match with PBC again facing the Eagles to see who will win straight through to the Grand Final. After losing to the Eagles in the first game of the year, PBC have enjoyed a massive 20 week unbeaten streak with 19 wins and a 29-all draw. The Alleygators will no doubt be looking to carry this momentum right through to the Grand Final in what would be a fitting end to a resurgent year for the club. In the Minor Semi, Helensvale will again feature at home when they face Surfers Paradise.
In the battle of youth and exuberance, the Under 20 Colts finals will see the Eagles clash with Coomera in the Major and Helensvale taking on Colleges in the Minor. Both games will kick off the finals programs of both Saturday and Sunday and should be a great spectacle of fast and ferocious attacking rugby!
Finally, the 4th Grade finals kick off tonight at Helensvale as those involved chase the first glory and bragging rights of the weekend. The Major Semi Final will see Minor Premiers Helensvale take on the Hinterland Celtics at 7pm followed by last year’s drawn premiers, Beaudesert Warriors and Surfers Paradise Dolphins, fighting to keep their seasons alive in the sudden death Minor Semi at 8:15pm.

Good luck to all teams this weekend!
