Rugby life for the Premier Breakers (and the coaching and management staff) continues to be an enormous challenge, with our group still searching for the elusive consistency in the second half of this competition.

We are all desperately trying to get ourselves off the canvas.

Following a disappointing loss to an improved Wests side (at home -  Round 12) in front of the old boys crowd, the boys aided by our Wallabies Benny Daley and James Slipper, took the cause to Souths (Round 13).  This match was a great contest, with Souths also fielding a couple of their Wallabies (Quade Cooper and Anthony Faingaa).  In another cruel twist, we were beaten on the clock, with Souths scoring a length of the field try in the dying seconds to take the win 31-28.

Our campaign moved on to Round 14, and a meeting at home with Norths, bolstered by a very slick Will Genia.  After an indifferent start, the boys really got into their work and ground out a win 20-18.

Round 15 saw us travel to meet one of the competition favourites – Sunnybank.  Again we started well, but through some careless errors and indiscipline let this good work slip – Sunnybank took full advantage of our plight and we were punished, finally losing this match 49-27. We have a tough road over the next few weeks, I am very keen to ensure that we don’t lose focus on turning in good performances, and seeking improvement, I know the team feels the same way.

The Premier Colts are still traveling nicely, after dispatching Wests in a clinical display, they suffered painful loss to a robust Souths Colts side.

They bounced back nicely to demolish Norths at home, and then turned out a great performance to nail competition leaders Sunnybank in Round 15, clearly announcing their Premiership credentials to all.  This was a real boost for the boys, and probably gave Johnny Dart (their coach), who has long ties with the Sunnybank club, some quiet satisfaction.

In local club rugby Surfers continue their charge to the finals, now looking most likely as minor premiers and making it clear they will be the team to beat for the premiership.  They won’t get it all their own way though, Eagles are a very gritty group and will be up for the challenge, and from my experience in local rugby, you would not count Palm Beach out at your peril.  Nerang look a real chance for a top four spot, and could surprise.

Good luck to all in rugby,

I will catch up again soon.

Yours in rugby
