The inaugural  5th Grade  twilight golf event was a cracker!

Lisa Rowlands with her first swipe of the little white ball ushered in a new era of unbelievable below average golf! Four holes were nominated as “closest to the pin” ... quite astonishingly, the score board attendant was not required to record a winner on any of the four holes ... this in itself may well be a record of some sort!

The booze buggy commandant Wazza Carey and his faithful assistant Ivan “Mallat” Hill tried their best to engender a festive spirit by providing as much fluid [for hydration purposes] as one required ... it must be noted however that they did look like a couple of deviants dressed in their father Christmas hats ... lurking in shadows at the lovely Boomerang Farm Golf Club.

The best score of the day came from the son of Rugby Gold Coast Administrator guru John Hamilton ... John himself was not so crash hot ... but 14 year old Peter Hamilton tore the course up in a “bench mark” round of 44 ... Mark Middleton was heard to mutter on several occasions ... after Peter had played another good shot ... “you little prick” ... a  round of golf with Marky Middleton was certainly an eye/ear opener for the young golf gun.

Australian Mesh boss Paul Barnes certainly looked the part when he arrived ... but it proved to be a case of “looks can be deceiving” ... while RGC supremo Tim Rowlands failed [again] to live up to his pre-tournament hype of “I am the greatest” ... but to be fair ... he did handle the post match speeches with his usual aplomb!

Tournament organiser and Chairman of Selectors Grant Batty was clearly distressed to have lost out to a 14 year old weighing in at 46 kilo’s!

The players were joined for a post match sausage sizzle by Jane & Chrissie Middleton, daughter and wife of Mark ... Annie Norton-Knight, wife of absent Peter Norton-Knight ... Sue Barnes, the bigger boss of Australian Mesh!... the lovely Jill Batty, wife/boss/Commander in Chief/ etc of the dejected Grant.

Not a huge turnout it must be observed ... but those who were there had a really pleasant stroll around a very picturesque golf course in the company of some fellow  5th Graders  ... and as has been noted before .. “from little things .. big things grow”.

We’ll all be back next year ... although maybe the “little prick” won’t be!

Note: The first photo is Santa and his dud assistants ... the second shows Middleton exactly where he should be!

Cheers

Chairman of Selectors
